Missionaries to the Mi’Kmaq people in Prince Edward Island, Canada

Greg and Collene are 1992 graduates from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO. Greg with a BS in Missions, Collene with a Missions Certificate. God opened doors for them to go to Conyers, GA, to start New Life Baptist Church which they started on October 4, 1992.

After their mission conference in 1996, they sensed God’s call to missions in the Dominican Republic and resigned the church in September 1997 to follow God’s call. They arrived in March 1999 and began language studies while helping a church in a nearby city.

In October 2001, they (along with another couple) began making preparations to start Iglesia Bautista Vida Nueva (New Life Baptist Church). During that time they saw young people and children come to Christ through the children’s and youth outreach. On June 2, 2002, the first service was held. What a thrill to see people saved, follow the Lord in baptism and grow through personal discipleship. They have trained and equipped people to serve as Sunday school teachers as well as fill other leadership roles such as leading the music, teaching the youth and discipling others (II Timothy 2:2).

In 2009, they began to sense God moving them in ministry, to their surprise He was leading them to the United Kingdom. They left the DR in April 2010, and arrived in Wales in June 2010 until June 2011 leading Libanus Baptist Church in Llanfairfechan, North Wales. They were overseeing this ministry while a missionary was on furlough. We returned to the states to raise additional needed support to return to the UK. While raising funds, Collene was diagnosed with breast cancer and began the long process of surgeries and chemotherapy. During that time, God began moving us in another direction where the gospel was desperately needed.

We were asked to pray about going to the Mi’Kmaq (mick maw) people in Atlantic Canada. God worked through several people to bring this about. You might imagine the reservation of people from Florida and the Dominican Republic going to Atlantic Canada.

We arrived in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island in July 2014 where we began working at the Lennox Island Reserve. While involved in a small Bible study, we helped start a Celebrate Recovery chapter, and Collene was able to start a Kids Club ministry. After three years there, we had an opportunity to work at the St Mary’s Reserve in Fredericton, New Brunswick, beginning in May 2017. We’ve been encouraging and equipping the leaders here. We’ve been able to start a youth ministry as well as being involved in a kids club. There are so many needs among the First Nations community, the greatest being hope that only the gospel can give.
